Spanish Financial Wellness Fair
Spanish Financial Wellness Fair on November 18
CEKC and WAGAP support native Spanish speakers
White Salmon (November 6, 2024) - Spanish-speaking individuals and families are invited to Henkle Middle School in White Salmon on Monday, November 18, at 5:30 p.m. for a Financial Wellness Fair conducted entirely in Spanish. The event is hosted by Community Enrichment for Klickitat County (CEKC) and Washington Gorge Action Programs (WAGAP) with the help of area partners.
Preventing financial stress is a primary goal of the Financial Wellness Fair series. Financial literacy topics will cover banking, credit history, budgeting, and savings. Access to legal aid services to help families and individuals navigate debt and credit repair will include resource guidance and support. Financial goal setting will also include information on first-time home buying and business planning.
“It can be difficult for individuals whose first language is not English to participate in these workshops,” said Abby Brandt Whalin, the Pathways director at WAGAP. “We are happy to add another session in Spanish and provide more opportunities for rural families and individuals to improve their lives.”
Recognizing that evening activities can strain community members and families, dinner will be free, children will be welcome, and childcare will be available. Gift cards are also available upon request to assist participants with financial burdens and compensate for their time and effort to attend.
This is the second event in the series being held in Spanish. The first was in Trout Lake in June. WAGAP Community Health Workers have been conducting outreach and hope to have a great turnout again in White Salmon.
To register for this free event, email pathways@wagap.org or call 509-493-2662, extension 374.
A variety of organizations will be joining WAGAP and CEKC for the Spanish Financial Wellness Fair in White Salmon. The event will involve local banks, housing agencies, medical insurance providers, and other service providers that support the wellness of individuals and families. The WAGAP team will be on hand to support providers with Spanish translation as needed so participants have as stress-free of an experience as possible.
